The bonding process was first introduced by Benda Lutz when mixing metal effect powders, and later, many powder coating plants adopted this technology. The market demand for bonded metal powders will grow as the use of metal powders expands, the amount increases and the quality requirements improve. This will certainly promote the supply, variety, performance and quality of bonding mixers. There are two types of bonding mixers: single-cylinder and double-cylinder. Single-cylinder type is the first generation, bonding and cooling are in the same cylinder, the appearance is similar to the flip-top mixer, but the shape of the mixing paddle and the speed of the mixing paddle are different. Nowadays, most of them are double-cylinder type, where the bonding cylinder and cooling cylinder are not one cylinder. This way the powder coating after bonding can be cooled quickly, the chance of caking is small, the loss is less, and the powder utilization rate is close to 100%.

Bonding device consists of main and vice stirring paddles, barrel, frame and electric control, temperature control system, nitrogen ventilation system. Where the powder is accessible (main and secondary mixing paddles, barrel), there is a sandwich layer that can be cooled quickly by circulating cooling water to prevent powder caking and bonding on the mixing paddles and pot walls.

The bonding mixer is mainly composed of 8 parts: bonding cylinder, bonding stirring paddle, cooling cylinder, cooling stirring paddle, nitrogen generator, electric control system, frame and experimental bonding mixer. The structural features are as follows.

The wall and bottom of the bonding cylinder/cooling cylinder are hollow structure, which can be heated by water circulation and cooling.

The bonding stirring paddle is controlled by frequency control speed, which makes it easy to adjust the temperature to regulate the bonding effect.

The nitrogen seal at the root of the fusing paddle is integrated with the nitrogen filling.

The opening and discharge of the two cylinders are pneumatically driven.

The nitrogen generator is mounted on the frame and supplies air to the welding and cooling cylinders as well as to the experimental welding machine.

The stirring paddle and cylinder structure of the experimental bonding mixer is the same as that of the friction heating type bonding mixer. The whole machine adopts fully automatic computer control system and manual control system, which can complete the task of regulation, control and indication of all operating parameters. It has safety protection and machine protection functions such as water cut-off, air cut-off, nitrogen shortage, etc.

Only manual feeding and receiving is required, the rest of the process is done automatically according to the set program.

Classification of bonding mixers

1. Depending on the output, the bonding mixers are available from 100 kg/h to 1500 kg/h.

2. According to the different pieces of mixing barrel, there are single and double cylinders of bonding mixer.

3. According to the different heating methods, there are two types of water heating and friction heating.

4. Depending on the production scale of your production plant, you can choose a bonding mixer with different output levels to suit it, or choose multiple small production models from a variety of considerations.

5. Bonding mixers below 100 kg/h are mostly single-cylinder based. One cylinder performs both bonding and cooling tasks. Laboratory bonding mixers are of single-cylinder construction.

The principle of generating heat is different for different heating methods: friction heating relies on the friction between the stirring paddle and the material to generate heat and soften the material to raise the temperature. It has the characteristics of fast heating and high dispersion strength. Water heating relies on hot water transfer into the paddle, cylinder heating material, with good heating uniformity and small temperature fluctuations. Comparing the two, friction heating bonding mixer is more suitable for mixing fine particles of metallic pigments, but its materials have the tendency to knot fast and generally have to be sieved after mixing. Water heating bonders are more suitable for mixing coarse metallic pigments, but the heating time is long and the power consumption is high.
